The trend of making your own avatar has been around since the Wii era, and then Bitmoji and Apple’s Memoji gradually followed. Meta also followed up and launched its own function. After Facebook and Instagram, it was finally WhatsApp’s turn.
According to reports, WhatsApp began testing the avatar feature in the latest Android 2.22.23.9 beta version. This feature will add the “avatar” setting to the settings menu, where users can create the appearance they want, and then automatically generate a series of expressions and actions that can be used as stickers in conversations.

This feature debuted in Messenger as early as 2019, and then rolled out to Facebook and Instagram, and became a 3D design. Meta said at the time that this was part of their concept of building a metaverse, allowing users to access similar content on the platforms they use on a daily basis, making it easier to accept virtual identities. However, it is still unknown when WhatsApp will officially add this feature.
