WhatsApp ad slams iMessage as insecure, Zuckerberg: We’re a bit of a peer-to-peer message encryption

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a suspected insinuation on his social platform Instagram that Apple only provides end-to-end encryption for iMessage, not a standard SMS communication platform.

Mark Zuckerberg’s post on Instagram shows images of a new ad in New York’s Penn Station. Ads have blue and green bubbles for iMessage and light green for WhatsApp. Among them, the WhatsApp text box has “Private Bubble”, and the following indicates that the personal data of the message will be protected by end-to-end encryption, implying that WhatsApp is more secure than Apple’s iMessage.2022 10 19 11.06.54

Mark Zuckerberg further stated in the post that WhatsApp is more private and secure than iMessage, and WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption whether on Android, iPhone, or group messages. In addition, he also mentioned several features that iMessage does not have, such as message destruction and end-to-end encrypted encrypted backup.

Meta said that the goal is to increase the number of WhatsApp users in the United States, so the company will vigorously promote WhatsApp’s privacy advantages, and advertisements will appear on TV and outdoor large-scale screens throughout the United States.
