Japan increases investment in quantum computer R&D
Japanese companies such as Fujitsu, NEC and HitachiIncreased R&D investment in quantum computers. Fujitsu plans to build a general-purpose quantum computer with 64 qubits by next year, and strive to achieve 1,000 qubits after 2026. NEC focuses on specialized quantum computers called quantum annealing, which can solve “combinatorial optimization” problems at high speed, such as selecting the most efficient logistics route from multiple candidate paths. Quantum annealing could be practical sooner. Hitachi plans to achieve 1 million qubits by 2030.
