IKEA issues cease and desist letter for indie horror game set in furniture store
An indie developer is on Kickstarte for its multiplayer co-op horror gameThe Store is Closed》 launched crowdfunding, and the fundraising target of £10,000 has been reached. The game takes place inside a huge furniture store that looks similar to the famous IKEA. After media reports, IKEA’s lawyers told developer Jacob Shaw Cease and desist letter sent, said the game constituted trademark infringement and demanded that all similarities to IKEA be removed within 10 days. The lawyer listed various symbols associated with the IKEA furniture store in the letter, such as the logo of the Nordic name, and the clerk dressed the same as the IKEA clerk, all showing that the game took place in the IKEA furniture store. Shaw said he bought a general category of furniture kits and denies infringing on IKEA’s trademark rights.
