In the early days of the new crown epidemic, in order to slow the spread of the world, the blockade policy was implemented, and the land was much quieter. But coastal waters haven’t been quiet during COVID-19 lockdowns, a new study finds. U.S. researchers analyzed sounds collected at seven offshore sites from Virginia to Florida, where hydrophones were placed in 2017 and recovered in 2021 as part of the Atlantic Deepwater Ecosystem Observation Network. It was found that while the sound produced by commercial ships decreased during the blockade, the sound produced by vessels such as fishing boats and cruise ships increased, and the overall sound did not change much from before the blockade.
