While countries made legally binding commitments at the 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference to prevent average temperatures from rising more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, a new report by UN Environment makes it clear that there are currently “no A credible way to achieve the goal of keeping the temperature rise within 1.5°C”. The latest figures suggest that at the current level of action, global temperatures will rise by 2.4 to 2.6°C by the end of the century. Scientists have warned that this level would have catastrophic effects on humans and nature.
