According to foreign media reports, due to concerns that data obtained by TikTok may be obtained by the Chinese government, the US Senate passed a bill prohibiting federal employees from using TikTok on government-owned devices.

The bill, sponsored by Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, refers to TikTok as a “Trojan horse” for the Chinese government and a major security risk for the United States, so it is banned in the United States until it completely sever ties with the mainland. Download or use TikTok on mobile phones, tablets and desktops issued by the government or government companies.

The Senate passed legislation banning the use of TikTok on government devices yesterday (14th). No senators opposed it, but it still needs to be passed by the House of Representatives before President Biden can sign the legislation.

In addition, Senator Marco Rubio and Representative Mike Gallagher introduced another anti-TikTok bill to Congress this week, aiming to completely ban it from social media platforms in the United States.

TikTok spokesman Brooke Oberwetter said in a statement that advancing legislation banning TikTok on government devices would not advance U.S. national security interests.
