Although all parts of the world have their own universal electric vehicle charging plug standards, Tesla has always been a maverick and uses its own charging standard. Tesla recently changed the name of its charging plug and opened the standard to all car manufacturers, hoping to become a common standard in North America.
Tesla announced earlier that its electric vehicle charging socket will be renamed the “North American Charging Standard” (NACS), and at the same time announced the standard specifications, hoping that other car manufacturers can adopt it. At present, most car manufacturers in North America except Tesla are using the CCS standard, and Tesla said that their NACS standard size is only half that of CCS, but the charging speed is twice that, plus Tesla’s electric vehicle share in the United States is more than half, In fact, NACS is currently the charging standard used by the most electric vehicles in the local area.
Tesla has previously stated that Tesla’s Supercharger chargers in the United States will be open to all electric vehicles other than Tesla by the end of 2022, but there are still no actual details. If the charger is not modified, electric vehicles without NACS plugs still cannot use.
