According to foreign media reports, Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, the largest electric vehicle and solar panel company in the United States, decided to appoint Zhu Xiaotong, CEO of China, as the global CEO of Tesla.
Elon Musk has said many times that he never really wanted to be the CEO of Tesla, and that he hates being a boss and thinks he is an engineer. But he also said he hoped to fill the position when he was ready to hand over power.
It is understood that Zhu Xiaotong played an indispensable role in leading China Tesla during his tenure as the CEO of China, including the exponential growth of sales and the establishment of service centers in China. He also helped develop the Shanghai Gigafactory, which is now Tesla’s main export hub.
Zhu Xiaotong joined Tesla in April 2014 as the head of the China super charging station project. In December of the same year, Wu Bixuan, Tesla’s global vice president and president of China, resigned, and Zhu Xiaotong took over.
In September 2021, Zhu Xiaotong will serve as the global vice president and president of Greater China, managing Tesla’s full-time affairs in mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and at the same time taking charge of Tesla’s business in the Asia-Pacific region.
