In order to comply with the vTuber culture prevailing in Japan, Sony launched a small motion capture device “mocopi”. mocopi can assist vTuber to more easily capture full-body motions. It only needs a mobile phone to complete the animation of the virtual character, and transmit the animation data to the mobile phone or computer in real time, which is convenient for users to edit.
The mocopi launched by Sony this time consists of 6 button-sized devices and a charging box. Each device weighs only 8g, connects to the mobile phone program through Bluetooth LE 5.2, and lasts for about 10 hours. These 6 devices are respectively fixed on the head, wrists of both hands, waist and feet, and the whole body can be captured through the mobile phone. Coupled with IP65/IP68 dustproof and waterproof performance, users can also perform motion capture outdoors.
Sony plans to launch the mobile App SDK on December 15th. As long as your mobile phone system is iOS 15.7.1 or Android 11 or later, you can continue to use the existing VRM image and export recorded videos in MP4 format.
mocopi is expected to be pre-sold in Japan in mid-December and officially launched in late January 2023. The price is 49,500 yen (about HK$2790).
