Microsoft considers ad- and subscription-supported cheap PCs

According to a recent job advertisement posted by Microsoft, the software giant is recruiting engineers for the newly formed Windows Incubation team, one tasked with forging a new direction for Windows in a cloud-first world. One direction Microsoft is considering is to create subscription- and ad-supported cheap cloud-connected PCs that will deeply integrate Windows 365. According to Microsoft’s most recent quarterly earnings report, its Windows OEM revenue fell 15% year over year, but revenue from commercial products and cloud services rose 8%, and it makes sense to imagine that Windows has an eye on a cloud-based future.
