The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)’s preliminary report on Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard revealed that Microsoft admitted that its game subscription service Game Pass had hit the sales of related games.Internal analysis submitted by Microsoft shows that sales of games fell within 12 months of entering Game Pass[]% (exact figures not disclosed). This result is obviously contrary to the statement made by XBox director Phil Spencer in 2018 that subscription services promote game sales. The report also revealed that Activision Blizzard is unwilling to add its games to the subscription service of any platform, believing that it will seriously affect sales, especially the sales of new works.
