Affected by fewer working days, weak terminal demand, and inventory adjustments, TrendForce estimates that LCD monitor panel shipments in the first quarter of 2023 will be about 31.9 million units, a quarterly decrease of 2.6% and an annual decrease of 33.4%, still lower than before the epidemic same period. However, since March, brand makers have become more optimistic about the demand in the second quarter, and panel makers’ visibility into follow-up orders for LCD monitor panels has also increased. In the second quarter, LCD monitor panel shipments were approximately 36.7 million units, a quarterly increase of 15.1% Compared with the shipment volume of 37.3 million pieces in the second quarter of 2018 and 35.4 million pieces in the second quarter of 2019, it is significantly closer to the pre-epidemic level.
According to TrendForce, there are three reasons for the increase in LCD monitor panel shipments in the second quarter. 1. After China’s Internet cafe LCD monitors are unsealed in December 2022, offline consumer demand will pick up, and monitors will be upgraded one after another. This will drive a large increase in demand for gaming LCD monitor panels, and will also increase the demand for high-end gaming LCD monitor panels. There are noises of IC shortages; second, overseas channels are replenishing inventory. After several seasons of inventory depletion, LCD monitor brands have observed that the channel’s ability to replenish inventory has slightly recovered; Frozen, the brand hopes to take advantage of China’s unblocking economic recovery to promote sales. In addition, the panel price is at a low level, which also attracts brands to stock up on bargains.
Overall, TrendForce believes that the rebound in demand in the second quarter is mainly driven by consumer demand, while business demand remains weak. In the second half of the year, business brands will be viewed conservatively, while in the consumer market, the 618 promotion in China and the market conditions in the two major regions of Europe will have an opportunity to drive up peak season demand in the second half of the year.
Regarding the transformation of the panel industry in 2023, TrendForce is scheduled to hold a “Turbulent, the new layout of the panel industry“In the seminar, TrendForce Senior Vice President of Research Yubin Qiu, Vice President of Research Fan Boyu, and analysts Wang Jingyi, Hu Jiarong, Zhou Shibo, Chen Qiaohui, Lu Shuxuan, Chen Junxian, and Huang Shufang were invited to analyze the trend of this year’s panel market.
