Adrian Kwiatkowsk, 23, who hacked the accounts of the likes of Sheeran and rapper Lil Uzi Vert to get £131,000 from stolen unreleased songs, pleaded guilty to 19 charges, including copyright infringement and possession of criminal property. The U.S. first launched an investigation into a hacker named Spirdark in 2019, who hacked into the singer’s account and then went to the dark web to sell unreleased songs. Investigators linked the email address of Spirdark’s cryptocurrency account to Kwiatkowski, and an IP address he used to hack into the singer’s account was also linked to his home address. He was arrested by UK police in September 2019, and 1,263 unreleased songs were found from a seized device hard drive. Files on the hard drive also recorded how he stole the songs, as well as bitcoin wallet addresses.
