French government legislates mandatory installation of solar panels in parking lots – Hong Kong unwire.hk

In recent years, the French Macron government has invested heavily in renewable energy. One of its goals is to increase the output of solar power generation by 10 times, while doubling the output of wind power generation. In order to achieve the above goals, France passed legislation earlier, requiring all parking lots that can park 80 or more cars, whether new or existing, need to be covered with solar panels.

The new legislation will come into effect on July 1, 203. Car parks with 80 to 400 parking spaces must comply with the legal requirements within 5 years, and those with more than 400 parking spaces must be installed within 3 years. French media pointed out that the new law requires that at least half of the surface area of the above-mentioned parking lot be covered by solar panels. The new legislation is mainly aimed at large parking lots in commercial areas and train stations. The French government believes that after all solar panels are installed, they can generate 11 gigawatts of electricity, which is equivalent to the power supply of 10 nuclear power plants, enough to cover millions of households. electricity needs.

The French media said that parking lots located in historic and protected areas and dedicated to heavy goods vehicles could be exempted. In addition to the idea of a large parking lot, the French government will also build solar farms on open spaces beside roads and railways, as well as suitable agricultural land, hoping that local communities can benefit from the use of clean energy.
