Five hours of sleep is the tipping point for health deterioration

The study tracked the sleep and health of around 8,000 British civil servants, some of whom also wore sleep trackers. During the 20-year follow-up, they developed chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer and heart disease. People over the age of 50 who slept five hours or less had a 30 percent higher risk of developing disease and were more likely to die from an increased risk of chronic disease than those who slept seven hours. Experts usually recommend seven or eight hours of sleep each night.
