Corning released a new generation of strengthened glass Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to improve the drop resistance of rough surfaces

Glass manufacturer Corning’s Gorilla Glass strengthened glass is currently used in 8 billion devices worldwide. They recently released a new generation of Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is the successor to the Victus released in 2020. According to Corning’s introduction, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 especially strengthens the ability to resist falling.

The manufacturer Corning said that the current mobile phone is about 15% heavier than 4 years ago, and the screen size is also 10% larger. Both of these will bring more pressure to the screen glass and increase the chance of damage. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 can withstand a 1m impact on 80-grit roughness, and 2m impact on 180-grit roughness, as tested in a laboratory environment, Victus 2 can withstand a 1m drop to a concrete floor, or 2m High fall on asphalt ground.

Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will be applied to new smartphones, watches, tablets, laptops, cameras and other devices in the next few months. Corning did not disclose whether the cost of Victus 2 will be higher than the previous generation.
